looking for more top end.

As I live in Germany, I often drive on the AutoBhan at 120-130mph, for long streaches of time, and i would like to lower the rpms that my motor is turning. I have a 3.31 8.8 from the factory, and am thinking about putting in a 3.08 or a 2.8 main gear. I dont care if i loose a few seconds geting to 60mph, I just want more mpg. and gearvendors is not an options, they dont make one for the Termec 3650 and pretty much blew me off when i emailed them looking for an option.

Any ideas from you guys?

Also does anyone know of a good watts linkage setup for the 09 gt?

also how does one rotate the tires if you run a 18x10 in back and 18x9 up front? does the x10 in the back give that much more traction then the x9?

Re: looking for more top end.

You summed it up, dropping the gear ratio will make the car feel much slower (going from 3.31 to 2.73 would make the car feel like you sucked about 40hp out of it down low)

The only real option without hurting performance is transmission gearing, you can look to see if there is a 6 speed manual (perhaps the one used in the gt500 fits, i know its been done on the 3v gt's more than once) and you can alter the final drive and change it to a .50, stock gearing on the ford spec 6 spd isnt much better than the 5spd final gear wise~ but its a bit better to start with.

with 9/10 inch wide rims you dont rotate unless your tires are unidirectional (which wont happen I dont think). The added 1 inch of rubber isnt a big deal, you wont really need it~ now if you was going 8inch front and 10 rear that would justify it IMO if you wanted more traction out back~ Its not really worth the hassle for staggering only 1 inch, it would be based on looks more than anything.

K-town, How are things at the Schnitzelhouse? I would probably weigh about 300 if I lived to close to there.

If you really don't mind running slower off the line, a set of 2.93s would lower your RPMs at high speed

as far as I know, you are right on the tr3650, I don't know of anyone that changes out the gear ratios in the actual transmission... there are 6 speeds available with lower final drives, however... that can get pricey, a lot pricier than just having the final drive swapped out

Basically, the lower gears are key. Only other thing I can think of is ensuring optimum car care. Throw on a cold air intake. It could add 1-2 mpg. Also, make sure your air pressure in tires is not too low. Use synthetic motor oil. Etc etc.
Some show. Some go.
