Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

Hello,

new to the forum, I was curious it the 62mm BBK TB's are worth the money?

Below is what I already have......

2006 Mustang GT
Has BBK headers and Steeda pipes
Cold air intake

Would the 62mm TB be a good next power adder? or do anyone have anything else in mind. Oh yeah, I really don't want a super charger. Want to keep it naturally aspirated. Any input please.....

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

No no no on the throttle body. I have heard way too many things about problems with the electronics of the aftermarket TB's. Also, the power gains are very minimal. You will be lucky to get 5 hp out of it if you are supercharged and running high boost so you will not notice anything from it.
Do you have an SCT or Diablo tuner yet? If not, get one next.
Are they shorty or long tube headers?
Think of maybe doing cams. They sound awesome and you can get good power.
New gears won't add power but you will notice the difference in acceleration

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

Ok, thanks. I will most likely get either the tuner or a short throw shifter. I know the shifter won't give power, but sure feels more positive shifts.

I don't know if the guy who owned the car prior had it tuned or dynoed after adding the Headers/exhaust and cold air. What I'm saying is I may get good results with just a tuner, but do I need someone who can tune it or would I be able to handle it.

I work at a Ford dealer ship. I normally just do alignment and used car services. LOL.

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

Has anyone used a Hurst short throw shifter? I found 2 different part # 3910200 and 3910201. Does anyone know what the differences are?

Are Hurt shifters any good? I can't afford a Roush short throw!

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

The tune is something tht has to be done by a performance shop as only they have the required software. A lot of people get theirs from Brenspeed or JDM as the big two. I get all my tunes from Brenspeed.
A short shifter is a good item. The MGW is the best shifter out there and it is the only adjustable shifter. You can adjust the height of the knob as well as the throw distance to be anywhere from 15 to 50% shorter than stock. I have heard mostly good things about Hurst and Pro 5.0. Not too many people like the Steeda. Haven't heard good or bad about the Roush but I know you will be paying the Roush price for it.

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

I went ahead and bought the Hurst short throw shifter. Part # 3910200 so I can use my stock knob. I would've gotten the Roush, but funds limited, so I'll give hurst a try.

Start looking for a tuner this weekend. Is it a good idea to buy a used tuner or not?

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

Depends if you know what you are buying. If you do get one off ebay or something, make sure it has already been unlocked because I know the SCT's "lock" to your car so you can't keep passing them around from person to person. Another down side is that the tuner shop will definitely charge you for each new tune.
I bought mine from Brenspeed and they keep sending me new tunes for no charge when I buy new parts.
The only down side to a brand new tuner is paying full retail price.
The choice is yours

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

I have the hurst and i hate it!going with a pro 5.0 or something 2nd to 3rd is werid i had a better 2-3rd with the stock. However it does shorten it alot, maybe its just me .As for the TB i installed a BBK along with BBK headers and an intake a few years back and it was sweet dynoed at 320 and 340ft/p to the ground it also had a custom tune ,catless x pipe and catback

Hurst shifters are very good. the only one that i saw got a better rating was the steeda shifter belive it or not. I think its called the steeda pro.

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

could just be me,its the 1st short throw i have ever used so i cant really compare.I also think i need loc tight on the bolts, thats more than likely the problem cause they back out and the shifter gets sloppy. The damm car is so loud it vibrates everything loose

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

Im not saying that you dont have the skills, cause i dont know, have a mechanic or some one who has experience in short throw shifters take a look at it if the problem persists after using the threadlock. could be that the one you have has a problem.

the thing i didnt like about his hurst shifter was it was so tight i couldnt tell i was in neutral.

Re: Upgrade Trottle Body or not worth it?

the only time i have used a short shifter was a B&M on my 02 cavi. and his hurst on the 02 gt350 personally i would go with what ever 1234 says he obviously has been around mustangs longer. lol the hurst made me like the trans ment business for some reason.. unfortunately for me his brakes were too good to pop the clutch while holding the brakes to do a standing burn out. yes i tried having the heal of my foot on the brake while pushing the gas

i dont think anyone has mentioned it but pulleys are a good upgrade. i picked up 8rwhp/rwtq on my 02 v6 so i would imagine it would be even better for you.
