Transmission fit problem

I have a '65 and am putting a '68 302 in to replace the 170 that was in it. Bolted the engine and trans together and put them in today. Got the motor in, but the tranny is 3/4-1 inch to the front of the crossmember. Tried switching the frame brackets, and the tranny dropped in, but the oil pan was resting on the front crossmember ie the engine was about an inch too far back. Help!!

can you flip the engine mounts or get new ones to offset it/raise it up/etc to clear?

Try turning the front X-member thru 180°. On my '68 it is a bolt on item with an offset of about 1".
