Torque Converter

Hi All
I have a 68 289 automatic convertible with the C-4 Cruiseomatic transmission, the car is stalling when in gear in parked position, when on the road it is perfect, my garage recons it is the torque converter, as i live in Ireland it is hard to get expert advice on this car. Is the Torque converter gone, and if so which one should i get,as there are lots of different types.
Many Thanks
Joe

Re: Torque Converter

the torque converter shouldn't have any drag on the engine while in park. I would get a second opinion before I replaced the converter.

Re: Torque Converter

Thanks, will do, any idea what might cause the engine to stall in gear, in ticks over perfect, once on the move it`s perfect, but when i put my foot on the brakes,it wants to drive on,even on a low rev, when i stop in drive the engine is under strain and then stops.
Thanks for your help.
Joe.

Re: Torque Converter

well that does sound like a torque converter, if it does it in gear, but it doing it in park doesn't.

Re: Torque Converter

Thanks for that.
when i put in the search for the converter i`m getting lots of options, what should i be looking for with a 68 289 c-4 auto?. The thought of getting the wrong one in from the States would kill me.
