Talking I'm a new guy...with ???s

Hi all.

Great to be onboard here. I am new to this religion...hehheh. Have always liked mustangs, now I own two...(see my profile).

I am hoping I can get some serious help here regarding my 1968 coupe that I just bought. It appears to be in great condition, very much original. If I can get some photos up here somewhere I will. I have no clue really what to do or how to do it, but I am looking forward to a fun project.

I am almost afraid to ask this, not knowing the culture here...but, I am considering the choice of restoring the 68, or restomoding it...a personal touch. That gets me to the first question... WHICH WOULD YOU SUGGEST, restore or restomod?

Second, this car has a narrow chrome strip that runs the length (plus) of the top of the body line that would be the top of the C, from front of fender to just behind the door. It appears factory, but I have never seen this before. Do think this was added aftermarket, or came on the car? I want to get rid of it when the car gets painted...if it is not a original part.

Let me know, if you know....and thanks for letting me be part of this forum!!

Re: I'm a new guy...with ???s

I doubt if its factory, but don't quote me on it, I have never owned a 68, 641/2, 65, and a 69 Mach I is as close as I can come to that, and a long time ago too. Sorry. On the modding thing, she would be worth the most if you restore it, but it depends if you want it for you, or to sell I guess.

Well thanks you two, for weighing in. I was hoping for a better response. Trying to find a forum where I will get some help. Anyone know of a good early mustang forum?

Fast 64 is restomodding a 1964 mustang and can help alot with aftermarket parts to help you in your quest. Personally, if the car needs alot of work, I'd do a restomod build instead of restoring, it'll normally come out cheaper in the end than finding all original parts and as fast said, you'll have alot more fun with it.

I say restomod. Nothing better than a 5.0L with a T5 in a classic.

Yes, scroll up to the top of the page and look for "Mustang Pictures" in the blue bar with the site links in it. When you go there, choose the "upload photos" option, upload the picture you want, then when it finishes processing it will give you a direct link that you can post here that will show your picture.

Basically it's your car and you'll have to live with what you do, so do it for yourself and enjoy the ride. There is huge options and many part but expect to pay lots of $$$ on the car. Have fun and welcome!

not a bad place to start! I am diggin the black on black alot!

I am a big fan of the 5.0/t-5 swap for obvious reasons, lol. Its not super expensive, a pretty simple as long as you have some mechanic skills

That chrome strip you mentioned and that is pictured is not factory, maybe a dealer add-on or previous owner add-on. That particular area is prone to door ding and shopping cart damages... but the edge corner; just below and outside the door handle, can be used to make a pretty neat hole in another's' car body. My wife did that to a person back in 73 when a person hit her side of the door (on purpose), so she slammed her door into their car, leaving a 2" gash through the sheet metal. Damage to my car, a paint chip, and a hooray to my spouse...
