black soot

I am getting heavy black carbon soot when first starting my 289. I just rebuilt the carb and then adjusted the idle air jets to make it a little more lean. The choke is closed when starting, so that covers about all that I can think of. Any ideas about adjusting the float to close the intake jet a little more?

Any thoughts???

Mike

Re: black soot

Sounds like your choke may be a little too tight. Does it have an electric choke?

It would suck to be waiting this long for someone to answer, but i'm sure it is not uncommon in this new of a forum for some question to never get answered.
