65 fastback troubleshooting

Ok so I tore that double pumper off and put a q jet on there. I couldn't get the car to idle with the q jet so I took the double pumper and completely went through it. Got it on and the car ran great. But then it progressively got worse and worse. It will idle but not and even idle. And when I drive it when I down shift to slow down and push in the clutch it will die when I push the clutch in. So I took the carb off again and went through it again. Put it back on and it ran great again, then once again in progressively got worse to the same state as I described above. Ive been trying to figure it out for 2weeks and can't get it. Also there is a flat spot when you step on the gas slightly and then will go away once you give it a little more gas. Please help
