1971 rear window leaks. HELP!

My uncle has a 1971 fastback and when restoring it he had to replace the rear window. Problem is when he went to put the rubber gasket in,lets call it, would not fit with the window and it now leaks through to the trunk. Please help. Any suggestions are welcome

Let me explain it differently. The gasket was too thick

That's what I said hut my uncle said it was the right one. Could it possibly be that he has the one for the coupe and not the fastback? Would they be different?

could be because the parts might be just a little bit different between the coupe and the fastback might be worth looking into.

Re: 1971 rear window leaks. HELP!

I just checked my rear window on both my '71 coupe and '71 fastback. The fastback rear window is over twice as tall as the coupe rear window (~27.5" vs ~12.5"). I don't see any way to stretch a rear window gasket for coupe to fit a fastback. Even if you could, it would skinny up as it is stretched and probably would not seal at all. My guess is that there is foreign material between the gasket and the body.

Maybe old gasket? I have a 68 and I did the same with my rear. It still leaks even after the adding sealer. So I moved on to plan B, lol parking the garage. Jk ;-P

Yeah I agree ... I have a 71 coupe and the rear window is way smaller than the fastback... Bad or wrong seal... Just don't drive it in the rain lol
