Muffler

I am in need of a new muffler for my 67 coupe straight 6. I was thinking of a flowmaster super 40 but am open to suggestions. I do like the aggressive sound so what ever you recommend keep that in mind.

I put Manaflows in my 66. I am happy how that came out. It sounds strong and clean. Not too loud and distorted.

I've never ran a super 40 but I know the old 40 series are louder than hell on my 65 fb with a 302. I've never heard them on a il6 look it up on YouTube it should be on there somewhere

I have the Manaflows on my 66 also, they sound great and when you are just cruising there is no drone... They sound better then the flowmasters I put on my 2006, little deeper throaty sound from them....

Yes the flow 40s do have a drone around 1200-1500rpms on my car. Some people like drone some don't. I guess it comes down to if you drive it every day and your sound proofing. As for magnaflows being more throaty than a flow 40 I'm not sure. I've always had the best sound out of flows. With flows you can't just have them open right after the muffler you have to have some tubing done after the mufflers. If not like he said they will just be really loud. I have found the perfect match on my fb. I just had some 5" diameter and 12" long turndowns welded to my mufflers, and it is loud but not extreme and it still has a nice throat when idling and purrs when cruising. Hope that helps

I think the key to finding the right choice is the sound you want to hear coming from the tail. Once you know what sound you want to hear then you can make your choice.

Re: Muffler

I have Magnaflows on my 67 coupe (289). I knew some people that had flowmasters, but I didn't like them, I'm not totally sure how to describe it, but it didn't sound very full or tuned at all. I am very happy with the magnaflows because they give a great throaty, full sound and they aren't too overly loud. but you can definitely hear it coming. I know some one that has a 66' with a inline 6 motor that sounds pretty good, if I can find out what they have i'll post it. But I vote magnaflows all the way!
