1966 Do I need a new starter?

I recently purchased a 1966 coup that I plan on restoring. Sometime when I try to start it it sounds like the starter spins freely. After a couple of attempts the starter seems to catch and start the engine. It does not do it all the times that I try to start it. Do I need a new starter?

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like the starter motor is working, but the solenoid or Bendix drive is not engaging the starter gear.
