Chrome removal

Does anybody know of an easy way to remove chrome? I'm trying to remove the chrome from the taillight pieces from my 70 and it's proving to be rather difficult.

Re: Chrome removal

Sand blasting is probably the easiest (and safest) way to do it. Muriatic Acid will also work but can eat into the pot metal trim pieces.

After a quick search, apparently they make an ultrasonic cleaner that will also take it off, but not sure of cost and everything.

Yeah we tried sandblasting but it wasn't cutting through the chrome and we tried the acid on one and it ate the pot metal right out from inside the chrome. Might have to look into this new stuff or try coarser sand.

The way I have used to remove chrome is with a grinder. If you are looking to paint the bezels just scuff the chrome and paint over it.
