Auto Gear Shift

Have an auto transmission and the shifter is really loose. Took it to the shop and apparently it's broken and a lot of money to fix. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yupp. Like the shifter itself, when in a gear, can wiggle around?

Re: Auto Gear Shift

Could be the bushings in the shifter housing? IIRC (been quite awhile) I redid the bushings in my old 66 and it was good as new.

Yea and it popped out of park when I wiggled it and bumped the car behind me! Luckily no damage. Me and my dad are going to dig into the trans. I'll keep the bushings in mind. Thanks

Well the mechanic said inside the transmission is broken. I'll ask what part that is. But from what I can see the bottom of the shifter isn't bolted in tightly. But it's hard to reach that nut

Re: Auto Gear Shift

Wow. An auto shifter is connected to trans by a linkage. It seems to me if shifter is loose that would be a shifter problem.
