Some came with 320hp in stock trim, some in the mid 200's don't know which cept the 99-01 Cobras were 320 I believe.

Do you know what kind of car it came from?

Herd some(older ones I think) had forged internals, also have been told none do. I would say they are capable of the same things as the mustang motor but heads/valves/intake could/will be different.
For $100 bucks you could buy then sell it and buy another motor. If it runs there is money to be made IMO

99-01 were a quad cam? I thought it was 03-04. But then again I'm more into the classics. I heard you can make these things nasty

1996 started the 4 valve or quad cam cobras, in 03 they were treated to a cast iron block, eaton roots type supercharger and forged internals, I'd say most of the power comes from the very flow friendly heads and of corse a blower

This is a 94 block, I believe they started late 93. It's got the vaccum powered port butterflies unlike the electric ones the mustangs came with I believe. I figure I could put a cobra intake on it and a paxton style blower if I wanted. Just worried about clearance with a roots or eaton style blower. Also am lost when it comes to the brain and wiring. This motor doesn't come with anything except ign module. What would I need, it's so confusing trying to understand these compared to my simple 302 Windsor

You would need a wiring harness and a engine computer. Which both those added up could be around $700 or more...

You think that much, I was thinking a couple hundred max from the junk yard. And the cobras had a quad cam but they were all iron blocks correct, the mk viii was the only one with a full aluminum. And then the navigators had a full aluminum quad cam 5.4

I don't know much about fords 5.4 but I do know if you buy a fuel injected complete engine with nothing but the ignition wires then you needle wiring harness or the engine which is gonna give you all your connectors for your sensors like tps, O2, maf, etc. and getting one new from a magazine or parts store is gonna be around 5-600 bucks and a computer is gonna put you down around 2-300 bucks

---------- Post added at 12:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 PM ----------

And then you have to go take that computer to the dealership and have them program it for the engine you want it to control which is only like 70-80 bucks. And do not buy a computer from a junkyard once computers are programmed they cannot be re programmed you will be wasting your money.

You can flash them with a chip to get performance and fuel economy but you can't flash them to teach them how to run an engine like how to idle and all the dwell times of the coils and injectors and all that it's really complicated to in all the programming to run the engine. When you take it to the dealership that's what there doing is flashing the computer but you can't take a computer from a junkyard car that already has programming on it and Change it to run a different engine in a different car.

Hmmm okay, well if I could find a harness for a good price and buy a new comp i think it's still a good deal. I'll have the motor built up a little, swap the cams an crank and have it able to handle a procharger and I should get 400 easy

Yeah def those are already almost pushing 300 aren't they? If your gonna supercharge it I'd go like 10-12 lbs of boost that will give you a lot of power and still be reliable for an everyday driver

Go with f.a.s.t. Xfi . It's really consistent and actually lends itself to more power. Definitely worth it of your planning on doing more with the car over time
