351 Winsor

I am putting a 351 Winsor engine into my 1966 mustang coupe. The car was originally a straight 6 and I'm having trouble with the pipes, hedders, and transmission crossmember. All help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 351 Winsor

well that engine never came in that year and i think the engine compartment is a tad smaller than 69-70 , hooker probably makes headers ,but I'm thinking your going to have to go to a shop to get the rest made ...........

Ok thanks but the transmission sits about an inch or 2 farther back. It's a baby c6 tranny anything for that?

May I ask why your going with the c6. They aren't really all that they are cracked up to be.

When I purchased the engine the c6 was the transmission that was attached to it. The man I got it from just said to take the transmission too because he had no use for it.

Sell it and go with a a o d or a c4. The c6 is way too much for a normal small block. It's just overkill

Hmm well could I just use the c4 off of my straight 6 even though it's a 3 speed?

The c6 is only a three speed also. What power level are you looking at with the 351

No need for a c6 at all then just get a good c4 and freshen it up and you'll have a nice trans ready to rock

Would my old one fit the new engine? The engine is out of a 77 f-100 and the transmission is from my 66

Yeah it will I wouldn't just throw it in if your looking at 400 hp at lest rebuild it with some new parts and a shift kit. Not as expensive as a new trans and most likely on the stronger side. Shouldn't cost you too much either. Your probably lookin under 600 bucks and it should take whatever you wanna put through it

Well I need to rebuild it for sure and only $600? That's not bad at all. I'm gonna look at it once I get home. Would a conversion kit be necessary or should it just bolt on?
