need advice

recently bought my first mustang,an 85 convertible.it was sort of an impulse buy.i loved the old fox body style and the sound of the flowmasters.but after a closer look i realized the car was originaly a 6 cyl.someone swaped it for a 302 but i belive it may be the old tranny and rear end.should i swap rears with a gt or change the gears in the one i have?also the throtle body seems to be small for a mustang, the motor probly came out of a thunder bird if i had to guess.can i change to a larger throtle body fairly easy?the car runs and sounds great ,just isnt very fast. i love mustangs but not a mechanic by no means.any advice would be apreciated.thanks

Re: need advice

with the stock power level (200 ish) the 302 puts out the 7.5 rear end if it has that is fine. If you plan to up the power you will of course want to find an 8.8 or so~ but you can cross that road later on.

V-8's came with the 7.5" in '85. I had an '83 GT and when the 7.5" failed, I upgraded to 8.8". I would wait and see. Have a plan ready to upgrade if you have to. If you feel like you want to change the gear ratio, don't waste your time on the 7.5" go straight to the 8.8" you should be able to find one with the gear you want. Look online.
