69 302 Timing Chain Cover

I have taken out the radiator and water pump and discovered a ton of grease and dirt sentiments surrounding the lower part of Timing chain Cover. Since i already have the thing apart I am wondering if I would be able remove the timing chain cover, without removing the timing chain or the crank shaft. Basically i don't want to affect/change the timing of the motor.

I think either the gasket surrounding the Timing Chain Cover is leaking or the oil pan gasket is leaking. There is grease on both sides of the motor.

PLEASE ADVISE!!!

Thank you

Jimmy

The cover can come off without affecting the timing

Re: 69 302 Timing Chain Cover

Sure, pull the fuel pump, lower pulley and balancer, and cover will unbolt. Take a strong look at the chain, because now would be the time to replace it.
