Angry My 67 was sitting for 8 years

Hello new here, i'm gonna get straight to the point my 1967 mustang (289 engine) been sitting for 8 year, before i turned it on i changed all oils and took the thermostat out changed the water pump, top radiator hose and also the radiator . still overheats when i drive it to work (20 min Drive) on the hwy. I do have a broken starter cable i noticed it at night arching, do you think thats the problem? also it turns off now while driving the strength goes away, and then turns off. help and opinion are highly appreciated thanks before hand someone told me to replace my spark plug cables and distributor. i dunno `

Have you repaired the cable yet? If not, that is more than likely draining your battery by not allowing the battery to fully charge/recharge while driving. It could also lead to your starter running out which could be a $60-200 dollar repair depending on the type starter you buy.

I suggest you replace the cable, $10-20 at most, before it costs you more. This is not something I would put off at all. It's a simple repair with only 2 nuts to worry about.

As far as the overheating, did you flush your heater system and engine block? The gunk doesn't just build up in the radiator, but also in the engine block, heads, heater core and associated lines.

You could try to disconnect the radiator hoses, turn on the heater and just run a garden hose straight into the thermostat housing. I bet you will get a bunch of rusty sludge from the lower radiator outlet of the engine.

Thanks for the suggestions< yes I've flush it all out when i changed the water pump, it had good flow, pretty clean. i wil replace the cable and then see what happens,Thanks Sainte
