68 face lift :)

I have a customer who wants to get rid of this tired 289 and drop in something powerful. But a street car, with air.. I was thinking about 302 punched out and bored and stroked. 331-347... Or 351 same combo 408 .. Then I got an idea about big blocks. 390 and up.. Need to know what will work the best and what trans to match it up with... Any info or personal preference will be greatly appreciated.. This is a very clean car and money really isn't an issue.. Pretty much a firewall forward resto..

Anything bigger than a 351W is going to take a lot of work to make it fit. While some of those cars came with the 427 FE engines, the front suspension and shock towers have to be modified for it to fit.
For a better balanced and handling car, I would stick with the 351W and just bore/stroke it to a 427.

I forgot the transmission.

To get your customer better gas mileage I would choose a built AOD (replace all of the weak components) for an automatic or a T5 or T56 for a manual transmission.
