302 or 351??

Hey everyone, my name is Jake McClure and this is my first time using this forum. I recently bought my first car, 64 1/2 mustang, and I need help identifying my engine. The block code is C9OE-6015-C and that's pretty much all I know, and that it's either a 302 or 351. If anybody can identify it for me that would be great! BTW I'm only 15 so I don't know that much about engines yet! Thanks in advanced!!

Re: 302 or 351??

I know the biggest they used for that year was a 289, but it's not the original motor, it was built in 69

If it's a 351 the deck height will be above the timing cover if it's a 302-289 the timing cover will be almost flush with the deck...
If you could take a pic of the front of your engine I could probably tell you also..

You are right my friend. A 351 has alot more room by the thermostat housing. You can actually get to the bolts. Lol

If you take the intake manifold off there is a casting mark directly in the midde of the oil galley that will read "289" or "302"

Re: 302 or 351??

This site - Mustang Tek - says it is a 351W, but they question the statement.

Here's some engine dimensions - Ford Engine Dimensions

Here's a couple of pics that might help.

302

351W
