Help with a '66 Purchase!

Hey guys, I need yalls help. I found a 1966 Coupe that I want. It's in pretty good shape, and runs like a CHAMP! I have my '01 but it's my DD and I want a project and this seems perfect! It's an auto with the inline 6.. Here are some pics. Just wanting some input and see if it's a good deal. Hes asking $5,000.

Re: Help with a '66 Purchase!

Use that link I gave u and check the value. It runs good, so that's a plus. It looks to me like it would be a really neat project.

Re: Help with a '66 Purchase!

Offer him 4k cash and see if he/ she bites! Maybe you might get it for that or $4500.00 that's what I would try. Tell us how it goes. Good luck

I bought I 1965 mustang with a 289 in it. The interior is perfect and runs great. I have pictures on my profile if you want to take a look. I paid 6000 for it so in my opinion I'd say that's high.

I don't feel like $5k is bad. I paid more than that for mine and put another $3k in it so far. Mine is a 289.

If this car is spotless, rust wise, it would be a decent deal if such cars are hard to find in your area. The book values on web sites are of very limited use with classic cars. The "going rate" fluctuates by region with the variable supply and demand. One of mine has a value of 31,000, but I can't sell it for 10,000 where I am.
If you really like it and/or a rust free example is hard to find in your area, I would try hard for the 4000-4500 price. Don't be afraid to use the "i really wanted a 289" tool to knock it down, even if you want a 6. If it has been for sale for any amount of time they will have already heard it and are probably already wishing it WAS a 289. Good luck!

Re: Help with a '66 Purchase!

Did you pull up the carpet, use a magnet strip on the body panels or check for frame rot?

Before you pull the trigger stick a hose in the cowl for a few minutes and see if there's any water around the fresh air vent/ heater box

That's what happened to me. My inspector didn't do that test and when I got my car in I realized that the prev owner had used expandable construction spray foam to fill in the rusted voids!!! It doesn't matter if your spending 5 thousand or 50 thousand just make sure it's clean.
