Pulley problems

I have a Billet aluminum crank pulley and when I tried bolting it up, it seems that the holes on the pulley and harmonic balance didn't line up correctly. Can anyone tell me if I did something wrong or the best way to fix this? Thanks.

What size engine is it? It might be for an 80's 5.0. Is the bolt pattern a different radius on the pulley than your engine?

According to Summit Racing website, they have crank pulleys for 5.0 that the same one fits from 1986-1993. I'm guessing that yours is for a different year. Did you build the engine? Maybe someone got some 5.0 components mixed from different years. They sell a different crank pulley for the 68 (first year of 302), so apparently it matters what year it's for. Although it could just be the difference is the belt type, V vs. serpentine.

Where did you buy the pulley and year is it for? You're running serpentine? How many grooves is your belt and does it match. I think there are 8 and 10's.

The pulley was made to fit my balancer and my friend has the same balancer, and same pulley but the holes on mine don't line up.

Then it sounds like you should talk to the people you got it from.

Yea, I'll give them a call, might be just as simple as they messed up when drilling out the holes.

It's simple, you have either the wrong pulley or the wrong balancer.

You need to be sure you have the correct balancer for your engine as the imbalance weights are different and your engine will vibrate badly and be damaged by the wrong one. The newer 5.0 HO engines use a 50 oz. imbalance and the older engines used a 28 oz. imbalance. Once you have that sorted out choose the pulley to fit the balancer.

Well I went to work on the pulley yesterday and after a few minutes of slow, distributed tightening... I got it to fit No alteration of the pulley was required, just it's one really, really tight fit.
