65 coup 69 mach 1 To buy or not to buy?

I have a chance to buy a 65 coupe and 69 mach 1 s code 390 4 speed. Both project cars. $1000 for the coupe and $2500 for mach 1. Coupe has a decent body 289 4 barrel. But door tag doesn't match the vin under the hood ! Mach 1 has all matching door tag and serial # but does have a dent in trunk hatch and rear quarter panel as well as the door. Some surface rust. I haven't had a chance to dig further and look for any significant more rust. Just looking for you experts to give me your opinions ! I will try to upload pictures

So are you saying $2500 is a good deal? I don't know much about restorations and am afraid that I would bite off more than I can chew and be stuck with the car

For some reason I couldn't load ur pics from the app but I went to the site and looked at them. The 65 looks solid, but the mach is beat to Hell. It's gonna need a lot of body work. If you have never done anything like this I would not suggest the mach, but rather the 65. The 69 is way more rare and better looking imo but its gonna take A LOT more work. And a lot more money to restore .

" I have owned my 69 390 S code Mach 1 for 10 years now. It is very hard to find info on the 390's. I have heard that the production of these rare cars hovers around the 1,100 mark."

" The '69 390 'stang in any configuration was the absolute rarest one built, By then all the performance guys wanted the 428CJ and very few were built."

Dude what are you waiting for? Grab the Mach without thinking twice. If its not a rust bucket and its just the dent go for it.

Buy both cars, part out the coupe and put that money into the Mach.

If its rare, same as my 67 is its worth money. Obviously not a 100k vehicle, I think for 2500$ you should get it. That's not expensive for a 69fb with a 390! That's really rare. A great project in my opinion, much better than some boring 66 coupe. No offence to you coupe guys . For me anything under 5000$ for a project car is good. I would jump on that 69. Looks nice and you'll be the only one with that 390BB sitting in a 69.

Where in Minnesota are you? Man you would be foolish not to jump on the 69. I would sell my soul for that car. It's what my Dad drove when I was growing up. It is most defiantly worth $2500. If you want help restoring her, let me know. I live in Little Falls. 1/2 hour north of St. Cloud.

Why are you still debating it. Go get the Mach 1, only stop for the ATM machine.

Go NOW! No more posts until you get the car.

I'm not to worried about it going anywhere, I get first dibbs on it. Maybe it will even be cheaper in a few weeks. Going to go look at it again in a few weeks with my dad when my parents come back from Arizona for Christmas !

Hey booner, money talks....so I don't know how well you know the people that are selling the Mach but I wouldn't wait too long. I'd offer 3500$ real quick just to get that car from them! Just my opinion. If that car is a "matching #'s" you better jump on it fast. I wouldn't do that in reality but If someone else wants that car, they'll offer them just about anything.

You can always buy it to resell it. You don't find 69 Mach 1 projects for that cheap much less 390s trust me I waited ad looked for Over 6 months and if I didn't work out a deal over eBay I would've lost it to bidding cause someone budded over my 5k

I should be fine as far as waiting another 10 days . And I'm pretty sure I want to rebuild it to have when I get older. But of I didn't what could I sell this for?

Idk I bought mine for 5 and it's in horrible shape but in my eyes it's priceless. To me it's iconic. Of course I'd much rather have a 390 or cobra jet. But this is my Mach 1. It depends on what someone thinks it's worth.

That's exactly the point, you might sell it for 5-10k depending on what someone thinks its worth. If your heart is set on it though, just get it and don't look back. That's what I did with mine.
Don't think I'll ever sell mine. I'll just keep spending money on her to make her better and faster. I think that's what most of us do here on this forum. Good luck.

Well I put it on craigslist for 7500 and got 8 calls and had 4 people want to see the car in person that day and they were 4 hours away from where I live lol. If you bought that for 2500 you could easily get 7500 for it np and that's 5k profit lol
