How can i get my fuel gauge working in my 77 mustang?

i have a 1977 mustang and the fuel gauge isnt working in it, either is the amps, what could be the problem? i was thinking maybe the hole gauge panel needs replaced just because its old and i know some of the wires for the lights are dryrotted and breaking. but i also know there is some rust in the gas tank. could that have ruined the sensor inside the tank for it? any ideas of what could have broke it? and ways or fixing it?

I'd say old wiring just because thats something that can be fixed and when your done, your new dash looks better, Its possible your tank could have done the trick but either way you're replacing an expensive item, I'd start with something that would make the car look better

When you mention rust in the tank, I would say that is the cause. I have replaced more than one fuel tank sending unit in an old Ford that was stuck because of rust. The other problem they suffer from is a hole in the float, which renders the unit inoperative.
