How fast will a 1967 ford mustang gt 500 eleanor with a 429 hemi in go at top speed (mph)?

all those old American sedans hit a aero wall at 150 mph, besides the 429 Boss Hemi is way to wide for that engine compartment.. there was a 427 SOHC HEMI built by Ford in the early 60's for NASCAR, it's as rare as hens teeth and very expensive....Here is a picture...

Actually the Ford 429 Cobra-Jet was a "semi-hemi" engine, so it's funny you mentioned that. But the '67 GT500's came stock with a 428 Cobra-Jet, and the 429 was only used in Boss 429's and later Mustangs from the early 70's. The Eleanor car in the movie had a 351 small block crate motor that made about 475hp, which is more than the 428's/429's made stock. They used that engine because it's lighter, cheaper, and easier to tune.

The top speed of any car depends on more factors than just the engine like gear ratio, trans, etc. A stock '67 GT500 could probably go about 130-140 stock with the limiting factor being the amount of gears (4). With a 5 or 6-speed trans, the same car could probably go 155-165.

Fords use Boss engines. Chrystlers and dodges use Hemi engines. The "elanor" was never a production car, it was just a code name for the mustang used in the gone in 60 seconds movie. the car you are talking about is a 1967 GT500E. it looks like the one on the link below

Contrary to all this flap. The BOSS 429 is as much a "hemi" as any Chrysler power plant. The chamber is hemispherical with two small chords cut off to increase compression without hindering flow.
The Boss 429 will not fit inside the 1967 shock towers so they have to be moved out 3 inches OR removed entirely and the front changed to a "torsion leaf" suspension.
The key to top speed is Aerodynamics and gearing.
With a 2.50 rear gear and a little "areo-tweaking" (like filling in the headlight buckets). You could get over 220 mph.
OLD Fart Ford Racer (with a few 429's in my collection)

The OP is little misinformed. As others have said the 429 wasn't quite a full-on hemi, nor did they make 500-700 in stock trim. The 1967 Mustang did not have have overdrive gearing with the stock 3.50ish rear end gear and a 1:1 4th gear, you could go around 115-120 MPH before you hit the redline in 4th gear. Also the eleanor mustang is a recent development, previous to the year 2000 it didn't exist.

I have been racing for 25 years and never seen a 429 hemi in a ford. but if such a monster should exist it would probably top out around 180. a 428 Cobra Jet would have been correct for Elanor, just saying, and yes there was only one Mopar ford collusion, anyone ever hear of a Sunbeam? AC cobra body, and C4 auto, and a little baby 392 hemi in it. (kind of lookes like a cobra of 69. great car, bad brakes, raced one(as driver)

I'm not positive but cars back in them days didn't go past 130. I own a 96 mustang gt and hit 135. My buddy had a 95 mustang gt and was able to pull off 140mph in about 2 miles. I'm selling the 96 to get a 99 cobra which will do way over that. But mustangs aren't really built for all that high rpm. If you want top speed, buy a bike. If you want a car with good top speed, you'll want a $100k vette.

BTW... a car with 500+ hp will almost do 200mph with the right gears. After doing 160 on a bike, i can tell you that anything over 130 starts looking blurry!!!

The '67 GT500 came with a 428, not a 429. Neither engine was a hemi. In factory trim the top speed was around 135 MPH.

BTW, "Elanor" was the name of a specific car in the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds." It was not the production name of the GT500.

that depends on the top gear ratio, the size of the tires, and your intestinal fortitude ( gonads ), 200 mph is not too far out of the question, if you want more top end, get some 22 inch wheels, you wont be able to hang
