1966 & 1965 Question?

I have a choice of getting a 1965 GT four speed top loader with a 289 stock engine (225 HP). Fresh paint and engine just rebuilt as well as new standard interior -or- I can buy a 1966 mustang (Originally a v-6) total restored 289 with a new high performance engine (340 HP) with everything new on it with some major upgrades. (New shift kit, paint, wheel tires, all chrome new, etc. Which one would be the bettr buy. I'm gonna keep it for a long time.....

Go with the mustang and get some spinners and some sick leather seats. Then call it your souped up ride!

1966 & 1965 Question?

I don't remember Ford making a GT in 1965, I though that they started making the GT in 1967, I could be wrong! Ford never made a 1966 Mustang with a V-6 motor until sometime in the 1980's if I remember right, I could be wrong, but I have owned several Mustangs(I wish I still had them) My first Mustang was a 1964 1/2 convertible, it was sky blue with a white top!

1966 & 1965 Question?

I think given any choice between anything and anything, always take the one with a manual transmission. There's just something about interactive driving that's 100 times more satisfying.

P.S. They didn't make V-6 mustangs in the 1960's. That was an in-line six. There are many, many light duty components on a 1960's six cylinder Mustang. Lots of them. They may have all been changed out, but either way, it'll be a much lesser investment.

1966 & 1965 Question?

The 1965 GT with V8 and factory 4 speed would be worth more in the long run. It is more rare and collectible. And the manual tranny would be more fun than the sissy automatic that the 66 has.
Later on, you could replace the 65 engine with a high performance engine, and still have the stock one to put back in when you sell it. Or hop up the engine with bolt ons, then remove them when you sell it.
This would be an easy choice for me. I would buy th 65 GT for sure.
