Barrett-Jackson auction prices 2009?

This is the first time i have ever seen this event. Some of the auction prices on the classic cars seem awfully low in price-even though it is auction. Can someone enlighten me? I mean i saw a 1956 (?) Corvette sold for $78,000.00 I saw a 1964 Impala sold for $38,000.00 I saw 60's mustangs and camaros go for less than $100,000.00 I am a reader of Hemmings Motor News and most of these cars would be advertised for at least $100,00.00 TO $250,000.00+. A 1970 Plymouth Superbird would be in Hemmings for at least $300,000.00. Not on Barrett-Jackson What gives. Are these replica-cars? Or are they all originals being auctioned. I am not an expert just curious.

Hemmings and Barrett-Jackson prices are way way way to high. Those Barrett-Jackson cars in a normal classic car auction bring 1/2 of that.

Right now money is tight, so we have an over supply with very little demand.

You can buy really really nice matching numbered Camaro's from the 60's for upper 20's lower 30's. Even 396 super sports.

I WATCH THE BARRETT JACKSON AUCTIONS EVERY YEAR AND I HAVE NOTICED LOWER PRICES AND LESS EXCITEMENT THIS YEAR. KEEP IN MIND, THE PEOPLE THAT ARE THERE BUYING THESE CARS ARE BIG MONEY PEOPLE THAT QUITE LIKELY LOST A TON OF MONEY IN THE STOCK MARKET AND MAY BE A LITTLE MORE CONSERVATIVE WITH THEIR SPENDING.

yes, you're right,it is an auction ND BASIC CARS MAY BE HIT BY THE DOWNTURN BUT SPECIAL CARS can soar. Last week Carroll Shelby's own personal Cobra and his hat sold for $5.5 M.

Some cars are replicas but are listed as such.

The economy has brought the prices down at BJ this years.
Speaking of which, it's on again in 2 minutes. Todays cars will be very expensive.

I watch this auction every year, as do my brother and brother-in-law and we all agreed that prices were down. The big example cited by the announcers was the 69 Camaro COPO ZL-1 I believe that sold for under $ 300,000. A similar car last year sold for $ 800,000 plus. There was also a lack of celebrity attendance at this show and a lack of attendance in general. This was a good year to be a buyer at this show. A #1 57 Chevy convertible barely got to $ 100,000 when they were hitting $ 150,000 last year. Locally at the Goodguys car corral, we are seeing lower prices. The economy and stock market losses have evaporated a lot of wealth in this country, and collector cars are not a necessity by any means. If you've got the money this is a great time to get that collector car you have always wanted.
