It could be a linkage problem, or low oil level, or blown out modulator, or internal problem.. take it to a transmission shop for a estimate..

AND FIX THAT GAS LEAK!

fuel leak is important to fix wil not be connected to gearbox issue,
check fluid level in gearbox . if ok? check all vacum and linkages to gearbox/ engine.
failing that intrenal valve for brake band. actuator effecting gear change will have failed. you may be able to get an easy fix but often an exchange tranny is best. use an auto box specailst or trusted garage only.

you might check your tranny fluid and make sure there is no red fluid underneath where u park ur car and if u didn't know already an automatic transmission runs off of pressure so if u dont have enough pressure it may not work at all, to check ur tranny fluid park the car in neutral and pull the tranny fluid fill dipstick and check the fluid.

Make sure there's vacuum at the vacuum modulator on the transmission.
