1966 Mustang suggestions?

My dad has a old Mustang, and he plans to pass it on to me. We need to fix it up, and even though he knows a ton about cars, I would like to know a little myself. I would like to put a nice, powerful motor in it, but I don't know what kind, or basically anything about it. Also, I would like to know where to buy parts such as seats, tires, etc. I plan on painting it black with red stripes, but I might not. I would appreciate some suggestions on how to improve the look of the car, as well as performance. Thanks.

there are warehouses full of brand new mustang parts for sale, mustangs are very popular, the best thing to do is like the other answerer suggested, go to school and learn how to fix cars from one end to the other. In the process you will learn about all the things you need to know. There are warehouses dedicated to preserving these mustangs one company " yearone.com :" has lots of information and catalogs you can order . Another big one is " classic industries.com" this is another online warehouse but I know there are plenty more. I always liked how roush mustangs looked, they have body kits, interior kits, and you can buy a roushperformance.com motor that will blow the doors off anything. Ford had a 289 small block that you could turn into a 600 hp motor. and there are many others like the Boss 302 and the newer mustangs have these 4.6 v8 that are some big horsepower motors in a small package. I always like the late 60s 351 windsor and both ": ford performance.com " who has a 351 boss new last year that your dad would probably love, and " roushperformance.com:" have motors built along the 351 that were and are still popular. In the end, you spend a lot of time looking and reading and doing research, and save your money and make that mustang your own. And please try to pump your dad for information, you said he knows a lot? good, he is your absolute best source to ask when making purchasing decisions. I love those old mustangs and that 66 is going to be worth a baby fortune with a big block in it.
I have only mentioned a tiny bit of the information available for your mustang. you can type 66 mustang? in the web search box too, and a lot of stuff will come up that way as well.

Check out Stangnetforums.com tons of information and people to help you out. Ebay has allot of used and new parts for those cars. Mustangdepot.com is good website for parts too.

For engine the 302 is a really awesome motor. You can stroke a 302 to a 331 or 347 cubic power monster. It really doesn't take much for a 302 to respond to performance parts. AFR cylinder heads make 302 scream. Subscribe or buy from the store mustang magazines.

-_- sell it to me. Plz.
Expect to spend tons of money. They don't make parts for these anymore, so it's hard to get your hands on them. Junkyards for minor things. The best thing I would recommend for you so that you get some hands on experience is to take a mechanics class at a community college. They're cheap. And do show you some stuff. Also, they might offer an autobody class. Some schools let you take your own car and do it there.

The standerd engine that they put in it is a 289 (v8) thats not very powerful...but its what you want in your car...if i was you i would put a 302 in it but make sure its a "boss 302" not just a regular 302...magnaflow exhaust...american thunder or catback...hooker headers... a ford 9" rear-end just look up something along the lines of "good preformance parts for a66 mustang" and c wactha get....good luck
