I recently bought a 1970 Mustang. The previous owners were getting it ready to race and slowly doing work on it. They stuffed a 351M/400 in it and now because the block is so tall, there's no room for an air filter because the hood just about touches the carburetor. I would say there's MAYBE two inches from the top of the carb to the hood. My dad suggested using a dust mask but it's much too thick and the engine doesn't get enough air. Is there something I can use instead of an air filter for the time being or will I have to resort to having a hood scoop installed?
Check out Summit, Jegs, or a K&N catalog for a low clearance air cleaner setup. Scoops look awesome on 70 stangs! Much cheaper to just buy an aftermarket hood with a scoop on it already rather than hacking up the current one, it's not like you have to keep the car OEM at this point!
