Transmission Cooler

I've got a 67 w/ 289 and C4. The tranny was leaking and slipping, pulled it out and rebuilding it. The car has a transmission cooler but it's fairly worn. It's a DD, so I don't think it's really that necessary. The question is, should I replace it or just take it out and not use one?

I assume you're radiator has a cooler? If so, it doesn't sound like you need an external cooler. If your radiator was for a manual transmission, you'll need to change it or replace the cooler.

It's a separate tranny cooler, mounted in front of the radiator.

So your radiator does not have cooler line fittings at the bottom? If it does that will be sufficient. If it doesn't you have to do something. The trans must have a cooler, either in the rad or external.
