Just wondering what ev1 is doing with their car. Road trip, repairs, car show, odering new parts, making up a wish list, etc. Today I installed a new carburator and rear tires. The carb is a 750 cfm double pumper with mechanical secondaries from AED. Rear tires are BFG drag radials. Hope the 1/8th and 1/4 mile times improve for the $'s spent. How about yours?
Changed the oil (whatever was in there was really old and nasty, at least there was 5qts worth, so that's good).
Got the brakes bled, and got her rear back on the ground.
Now I just need to get a shorter alternator belt and turn my fan the right way, and I SHOULD be good to try to start her back up!
After cranking for what felt like forever waiting for the new fuel line and filter to fill, she finally was trying to catch. After a quick carb adjust, she started right up. Then after an idle adjust, she was purring. I'm so fricking excited!
Okay, I tightened up the rear suspension bolts and dropped her back on the ground. Also topped off fluids.
So there's nothing left to do but go for a spin right? Well I had my boss come along as a chance car in case anything happened. Well she rolled out of the garage, and to the end if the driveway...then it didn't move any more...engine running fine, but no response from trans. Finally figured out it was low on trans fluid, so I added a quart and that seemed to help, made it a few blocks, then the same thing - no trans response. So I parked it and my boss drove me back for another qt of fluid. That gave me enough to get home, but still slipping majorly. I'll check level tomorrow and get more fluid. I'm using type F so the wrong type isn't the issue, it's gotta be the level.
Anyway, here is how she is sitting with the new leaf springs.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it is. I could have sworn the dipstick showed okay, but the fact that it did better with more fluid indicates not so much. I will know tomorrow for sure.
Yeah I didn't drain the converter. Everything says to check in park idling, so that's what I did. I got about 1.5 qts when I pulled the pan, but it was leaking everywhere already, and 5 qts went back in. From what I'm reading about the FMX, I still might be a few shy.
Now that things have settled down overnight I'll take a cold reading, then an idling reading, and go from there.
I also read that if the filter comes unseated it can cause the same thing. I might cut my losses and drop the pan to double check the filter is secure.
Put in fuel sending unit : not a whole lot, actually had the day off Friday but spent most it doing the brakes on our family ride...LOL..I'm Ready for long progress stretch on the stang!!

Okay, dropped the pan, and sure enough the filter wasn't seated. Looks like I connected the wire holder incorrectly...face-->palm.
So, now it's seated correctly, got the pan back on - luckily I had an extra gasket sitting around - and bolts torqued properly. Tomorrow we fill, and with a little luck everything should work perfectly...right???
