Lights

Okay, on to the next project...my first electrical project on my 67. I needed and got new tail light bulbs, #1157.

Both bulbs light up with the lights on. The passenger side bulb works as expected (running/brake/signal/emergency). But the driver bulb stays as a running light only.

I noticed the dash indicator stayed on solid when signaling left, but worked as expected signaling right. Socket looks good, I will check conductivity to see if it's grounding out somewhere.

Any pointers on how to proceed? I have a decent idea of how to troubleshoot, but some tips couldn't hurt, and would probably save some time and frustration. Thanks!

How about the flashers? Check turn signal switch assembly in column. Also all those lights go through the headlight switch. The rheostat in that switch goes bad after 40 years. Also you might check the wires under the sill plate on the drivers side, could be a short in there.

Yes, brakes and blinkers go thru turn signal switch so check operation of left front blinker. If it's Ok then switch is good but still have to check wiring.

Thanks guys, hopefully I'll have some free time tonight.

The blinker indicator stays solid when signaling left, but actually flashes when signaling right. Not sure what this tells me.

Another thing I had yet to consider is the front indicators are both disconnected currently. I wouldn't think this would make a difference, but it is one more piece of info.

I will check to see if the socket wire has continuity with ground and go from there.

Thanks!
