Turbocharged straight six?

I think I'm going to slap a turbo on my car but have no idea what i need for it i know obviously a turbo, BOV? Or a waste gate? Or are those the same? I upgraded fuel pump a way to get oil to and from the turbo but what else? What else would i need to upgrade? Im trying to keep it on a limited budget and want to get the best bang for my buck. And what about cam and valve springs? Help!! Im lost ha

Well you will want to find the right sized compressor for your build, turbo mani either fabbed or purchased, some sort of intercooler and piping, external wastegate and plumbing for wastergate, you would want a blow off valve, tap your oil pan with a bung for oil return, pickup a oil filter sandwich plate for the feed line, return style fuel system with bypass regulator "get one with a boost reference they will rise 1:1 when turbo spools, need a carb for setup "carbshop carbs!", new headgasket and arp head studs, and a MSD BTM or something of the sort, fresh tune up.

That covers your full kit without hacking it together

TiAL wastegates, Id grab a used Holset charger off a cummins motor, or new Garrett, Precision or Turbonetics. universal ebay intercoolers work just fine same with their aluminum piping kits, sandwich plate doesnt have a brand per say just pick one up all around the same price and do the job, turbo xs bov's work just fine and not expensive, I like aeromotive pumps and regulators all the other stuff is odds and ends.

Really really make sure you get a quality wastegate for the setup. Cheaper and poor quality wastegates "some not all" will create a condition referred to as boost spikes and nobody wants that. Say your setup to be at a half bar (approx 7.5psi) of boost when the wastegate opens. Now say you get a little heavy on the right foot and your tuned for 7.5psi and the wastegate allows boost to spike, now your engine tuned for 7.5psi is seeing anywhere from 10-30psi of boost. See the prob!

Also main things that kill turbo motors is poor tuning. Make sure your timing is being set properly as well as having a good monitor on your air to fuel ratio. It would be wise to pickup a wideband oxygen sensor/gauge assembly.

That is what i wanted to do but two things. Iv put a lot into this engine well my parents did ( birthday present) and its running perfect just doesn't have the get up i want. And two everyone and their mom just throws a 302 in it and calls it a day and i dont want to be like all them. So either i go 351w or bigger or throw a turbo on here. I was reading on other forums and people have been putting kits together for around 500$ now i know thats cheap for a turbo but i think it would be a good starting point for me and if i **** it all up i wont be out "that" much money and then upgrade parts as i go. A lot of people use svo turbos and they go for about 150-200 on ebay and they just run it straight to the carb without an intercooler i just have no idea where to even look for stuff. I tried joining another forum to get help but im still waiting to get approved -.- wth this is why like ME no bs

You will be surprised on the sound of the straight sixes. No joke I used to have people at my old job think I did a v8 swap. After I switched my tranny out to a 4 speed, it sounded like a supercharged eight haha. It didnt have any power but it sure had a lot of torque and a good sound to it. Miss it..

Dude, what exhaust are you running? That actually sounds pretty good. Once I get mine running again, I'll have to do a comparison :/ at some point someone put cherry bombs on mine, it just doesn't sound as rich/throaty as I want it to.

Staying on topic, you might be able to find a 351, or stroke a 302 for cheaper than a quality turbo setup.

I have a header from cjponyparts with a 2.5 s/s dual exhaust kit with 44s it was for a v8 but it just took a little modifying to get to hook up on one side i also got that from cjponyparts

Travis, if your a decent fabricator you could get a turbo off a dodge commins and make it work. I know a guy that managed to put one on a civic. If I remember he had to make the manifold.
