Thanks guys! I am just no good with wiring. I'll look over the provided link. If you have time time a picture would be great. If not, I can not be lazy and try and dig one up. Haha. I appreciate it.

Okay guys. Here is my electrical monstrosity. First is ignition switch and then the picture of it going through the firewall and then some other wiring by the starter solenoid. I am truly bad with electrical work. Idk of this will be of any assistance or not.

There is a wire coming off the ignition that is pretty much completely torn.

Holy hell. I would start by finding all the broken/exposed wires and fixing them. It doesn't take much to short something out and cause a fire.

I'd get a test light if you don't have one. And before doing ANYTHING with electrical, disconnect your negative battery cable.

I would get a soldering iron, some solder, wire strippers and some heat shrink tubing. YouTube examples of splicing wires together, and practice on a few wires before moving on to the car. It's honestly not too tough to do the simple splicing and repairs to make things safer.

Once you've taken care I the breaks, I'd start chasing down gremlins and things that don't work properly - that's where the wiring diagrams will help out a lot.

Alternatively, a new harness is an option to consider - much more expensive, but at least you'll know everything is new. Eventually I'll be doing that with my 67.

Yeah, get an electrical tester like Tyoung described earlier. They look kind of like an ice-pick with a light bulb inside of the handle. You just poke it into the wire through the insulation and the light bulb will light up if there is power to that wire. It's very simple and a fast way to run down electrical "gremlins".
I'm not very good with automotive electrical either but I can usually find my way to the problem buy using a pronged electrical tester.

I do have a test light but I guess I don't know how to properly use it. I mean I know how to test if something is working or not In general buy not really with what things should be hot or not.

Eventually I would definitely like to pursue a wiring harness but I don't feel confident about installing it at all and I really wouldn't know what exactly to get. I appreciate you guys sticking with me on this so far.

Does anyone know where I can find the ignition pigtail for a 67' I am having no luck finding one. I can't figure out the wiring so I am just wanting to buy new wires and re wire it to the proper areas. I want the wires to be properly color coded though. Any ideas? Thanks!

I know you can get parts of a new harness from CJPP and other mustang-specific vendors. The might be your best bet for getting it properly color coded, but you'd end up getting an entire piece of the harness if that makes sense.

I've been looking on CJ. Found one of eBay. But the ignition pigtail I have has more wires than the one that is supposed to be for 67.... I'm so confused now.

CJ website says it does not have one for 67' but that have one for 65-66 and 68. Dallas mustang says the 65-67 are all the same 3 wire ignition pigtails. However, mine has many more wires. Like a 68 pigtail..... hmm

Any advice on which pigtail to buy? The 3 wire 67 one or a 68 pigtail? I'm still battling this issue.

I can't tell. The one that's in there definitely has more than 3 wires for 67. But the 68 colors don't seem to match what I have either. This really sucks

You need to check and see how many connections, not wires. It's best to pull the ignition switch to find out which to reorder. There's a tool for removing the bezel you can buy.

I will try to pull it and get better pics here soon. I really want this car running asap. I posted pics of the pigtail earlier. Btw, I am looking for a pigtail to wire it. Not the switch itself

We know that, but if you find out which switch you have, you'll be able to
Find which harness you need

Hi ..would you like some help.

I do wiring and have tons of literature.

I've been helping people since 1968.
Online since 2000.

Let me know.
I'll start reading from the start if need be.

Looks like you have harness problems.

Ignition switch issues etc?

My current issue is finding the proper ignition pigtail so I can easily re wire my ignition becuase I have upgraded to electronic. I am having a lot of trouble with it. After that I will probably have to deal with more wiring to help make other things right.

Okay so you need the harness plug for ignition switch.

I'm pretty sure any simple Ford car will share the same plugin.
F alcons,Fairlanes, c ougars.
I can check my parts book to see if it us even mentioned.
I only can help with a harness for a 68 mustang.

I don't think motormite/ Dorman will have one and ford never had that part for sale.

Best chance is picknpulls.

What exactly is the issue with the pigtails?

I need a definitive description.

Which electronic ignition are you going with ?

I presume one that requires 12v rather than DSII.

Yes, the harness plug for the ignition switch.

I installed Pertronix Ignitor III and I am installing the relay so I don't have to mess with the transistor wire. It does require a full 12v. And since I can't figure out the wiring and the switch didn't work to begin with it should probably be replaced. The switch was replaced but the pigtail has not bee. Replaced Replaced and based on the looks of it that's where my problem is I think.

The green/red wire at the switch is 12v.

You know the resistance wire is taped up in the harness unless you have a ballast resister on the fender.

You can just use the green-red as the trigger wire.

I have a total of six wires coming off the pigtail. One of them is not plugged into anything. I think it's a blue and red one. This thing is an electrical nightmare

Well, it's such a mess that pictures aren't too helpful. I have already posted a few pics of them.

It looks like one of the wires on the pigtail turns into 3 wires in the harness. It's all messed up.

And that plugs into the ignition right? I'll have to try to get better pictures of mine. It seems the harness was chopped up and re connected by a newbie. Hmm.

Thank you very much for the pictures. That makes It much more clear for me.
