New gears

While I'm waiting for my motor to come back from the machine shop I've been kicking around the idea of dropping in a new ring and pinion set along with a LSD. My question is what are your recommendations on ratios? It's a warmes up 289 backed with a c4 that rarely sees the highway. I was thinking 3.55s. What are you guys running? It has the stock 2.79 granny gears in it now

When I swapped out to a 9" reared I put in 3.50 gears from Strange engineering and 11" disc brakes to help stop. Works for me. Good luck Click image for larger version

Its a c4 super street fighter built by TCI. It has a manual valve body and I'm using a hurst quarter stick shifter. The 347cu in has about 400+hp. I tried to build it so it wouldn't break down and its holding together quit well. 12.9 seconds in the quarter at 101-103 mph. Gets a little shakey above 110 but I seldom go there. I found a website once that you enter in your tire radius, axle ratio and trans gears and it tells you what rpm you'll be running at. I'd start by googling "rpm calculator" or something like that. Or it's just fairly easy math if you know those things.

I've had 3:55's in my 3 past mustangs. It's a perfect middle ground for light to light and highway. I plan eventually to install some in my 67 with an LSD.

The center section went together like a dream, I had a little trouble setting the gear mesh but after a couple hours of fiddling it's all set up and back in the car.
