cowl vents and rusted floorpans

Hi, Im new to this forum.

I have a 67 coupe that has pretty rusted floorpans. I have not yet stripped everything out of the interior, (seats, carpet etc. ) to see the extent of the damage. I know that the front passenger is pretty bad, i pulled the carpet back and the floor pretty much fell apart. The drivers side not so much but still has rust. Question is... depending on the extent of the rust, should i get the two sides and cut, fit and weld or go ahead and cut the whole floor out and replace with a whole piece? I am a newbie so to speak, I can weld, I am somewhat mechanically able, and I assume that I cant screw too much up doing it myself. Its a project and a learning project at that.

Any advise on replacing the cowls, and floorpans.

thanks

Re: cowl vents and rusted floorpans

its one of those deals where you see how bad it is and go from there, its gonna be weaker if you dont do it back to factory type specs or better, if you pm me a pic of the damage when you find it i will be more than happy to aid you in making that decision and guiding you on how to do it and some cheap tools that will help you..

the cowl....... is a PITA for sure, i hate doing them and charge alot when i do, i used to do bodywork and have restored many first gen mustangs, the cowl is the worst part hands down

Re: cowl vents and rusted floorpans

I would see how bad the floors are and try to keep as much of the original floor as possible. Just my 2 cent.
