I've thought about cars like that with v8's other than the more popular 4.6's and 5.4's.
I know the new thunderbird wasn't a huge success when compared to the older models. I think people just don't find the smaller liter v8's as appealing. People didn't like the 3.4L v8 for the 96-99 SHO's that much. I'm sure you could do something to it, I mean anything can be done if you have the resources and money, lol. I don't believe there is a huge market out there for the 3.9 v8's though.
My only issue with overhauling cars like ford fusion's is that there's too much you have to change. The car itself is just not made for rwd v8 power. The entire driveline would have to be revamped let alone find one that would fit given the fusion's dimensions, plus another slew of things that would just burn a rather large hole in your pocket.
