Re: vinyl roof

I've always liked them...I was just the Iola old car show (sure you've heard of it) and saw quite a few 60's/70's cars with original vinyl tops in excellent condition. There was a 73 340 challenger r/t with the original bronze metallic and black vinyl top...no flaws whatsoever, just beautiful.

I think vinyl tops are one of those things that only worked on the older cars though...a vinyl hard top on a 2011 mustang might look odd. I've seen a vinyl styled top on a late model impala and it looked weird.

Re: vinyl roof

Yeah you are correct they kinda promote rust under the vinyl, especially around the molding by the quarter panels and the trunk cowl.

The reason Im asking is because the one of the two classic cars Im looking at to buy both have vinyl roofs. If done right I kinda like vinyl roofs but then again not really. But I just wanta get some ideas on if I should replace the vinyl on the cars or not.

This and color selection is the hardest part IMO.

Re: vinyl roof

I had 2 cars with vinyl roofs in the past, a 71 Crown Vic and a 80 Celebrity. Crown Vic looked good with vinyl roof, Celebrity not so much.
If taken care up properly they are not a problem. I never had any problem with either one of them. Just make sure there is not damage under the vinyl already, it can sneak up on you.

Re: vinyl roof

The 71 Torino has the vinyl roof and when winter hit I was planing on stripping the car down to finish all body work before spring time. So Ill find out in November if the Torino has rust under the vinyl roof.

Now my Uncle has a 1969 Dodge Dart with a vinyl top and it looks sharp. Its a goldish brown color with a black vinyl top.

Why does this have to be so hard?
