Seafoam advice...

I'm going to be doing a Seafoam tune up on the car here shortly and I need some time frame and concentration advice:

I'm going to start out by putting it in my oil. I was planning on putting a half a bottle in for about 500 miles or less probably before I change the oil and filter.

This sound good? Too long, too short, too much, too little?

Then I was going to put a whole bottle into my intake and let it work out?

Would the line going to the brake booster feed all cylinders?

Again, too much, too little?

Then the other half a bottle into my gas after this.

Basically, I'm going to be doing a good tune up on the car because it pings from time to time, so I think I have some build up going on, and I'm going to be taking it on vacation with me in August. This will be my first time using Seafoam myself.

Re: Seafoam advice...

I've heard not to put it in your oil...

Without looking at the link above...this is what I have heard to do:

Run some through your gas.
Run some through your engine.

Change your oil

Done.

You can put it into your oil. I put it into my oil, gas and through the brake booster.

Re: Seafoam advice...

My dad was told by a good mechanic friend of ours that it was perfectly fine to put into the oil. Especially good if you are burning oil.

Don't know...just blurting out the ever accurate information I have procured off the interweb...it's on the net...it must be true...

Which is quite the dilemma...because now it is on the net that it is safe to use...so...both are true.

So the brake booster line does feed the entire top end? Because a lot of places recommend using PCV lines, but mine are sort of difficult to use now...

Re: Seafoam advice...

some people put about 10-20% of the can into the oil, another 10% in their fuel, and after certain mileage run 50% of the remainder through the motor, then the rest about a week later.

me? i just run around half the can through the motor and call it a day.

I'm with thomas, too much work for the other. I run about half a can through the car and call it done.

Also, I use the brake booster, even when I had true duals it came out both sides so I figured that's enough proof it goes through the whole engine.

Unless you have a crossover...then it could just be merging at the cross.

That was before my x-pipe.

True duals (no crossover at all) it came out both sides.

Re: Seafoam advice...

Yeah, that would be true of the PCV from what I've read since that would only service that side of the motor.

Re: Seafoam advice...

Well operation Seafoam went down tonight. I had already put it in the oil and then tonight I put it in the intake and changed oil afterwards. It did a LOT of smoking just while we were putting it in, then it did a lot more afterwards. It took about 3 WOT's and then a little more driving to get it cleaned out. Car runs smoother but it always does right after an oil change so :dunno:

I threw a whole bottle in my truck tonight too. It smoked for about 10 seconds before it burned off. :dunno:

Putting it in the brake booster will do that to putting it in the gas tank cleans your injectors, fuel lines etc.

i used about 3/4 of a bottle through my motor and the rest in my gas tank let it sit for about 30min then started it up and ran it then changed the oil

Re: Seafoam advice...

So this thread is semi old but I had to say something else.

When I first put the Seafoam in the oil, and then in the intake, I did notice a good bit of difference, but now that it has been a while, and I now have it in the gas tank, all I can say is wow. I knew the car wasn't running as good as it had before, but I had no idea. Runs absolutely outstanding now all througout the rpm range of ALL gears. Just great, even if you dont have a whole lot of miles, I would still do this "mod".

Ok, Im convinced, I need to replace plugs anyway, sounds like a good time to do it. I picked up an 04 3.8, and the guy who owned it was 85, probably bumbled around town building up all kinds of carbon.

Re: Seafoam advice...

Go ahead and do it it cant hurt. Some do it every oil chage some every other, and some once a year, and so on. Its all personal preferance. Just one more way to keep your motor clean.

Re: Seafoam advice...

remember to change plugs after seafoaming. Loose carbon deposits will foul out plugs.

Im doing 80% through the intake on the cobra, 20% through the fuel tank, then gonna change oil and plugs, all filters, etc. Anyone have some good places to pull vacuum on a 03/04 Cobra? Im sure i could figure it out, its just easier if someone tells me!
