2002 SVT FOCUS

Should I get this little car? It has a brand new head on it but two of the valves are bent because of the guy not putting it in time right and trying to start it. It has 120,xxx miles on it, its owned by a friend right now that has a junk yard and he really wants me to get it off of him for some reason and I was looking for a car thats cheaper on gas. It does have underdrive pullys and a 89 octane tune on it and the guy said it had right at 185hp and 160ftq.
Here are some pics.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Well i do know the original owner and he isnt that good on working on cars. the hole reason for putting on the new head was it blew a head gasket due to the radiator leaking and him not checking the coolant level he paid around 700 for the head and bought all new gaskets but was in a hurry to start the thing so he didnt recheck his work.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Personally I wouldn't pay that much something that has 120,xxx miles, needs to be repaired before I can drive it and has to be towed to my house.Hit him with $800 and go from there...
all he can say is no right?

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Those SVT Focus are quick little cars. Not fast but quick and fun for DD. My buddies has one with the FRPP supercharger kit and its different. I say go for it.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

yeah i'm going to talk to him about it tomorrow and see if i can't get it cheaper. He has all the gaskets to put it back together but i would have to buy the valves to replace them. witch is about $14-16 a piece.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Yah I'd hit him with a cheaper price...120k miles and mods are enough to bring down the price imo, plus it never hurts to ask. I've driven one of those hatch SVT's, not a bad little car...certainly not SVT Cobra fast, but quick for a compact car...and I guess the mpg's are decent too.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

I wish I had a photo of mine on hand. I wish I could have kept it and Layla. I didn't have a chance to lower it but it was a 2007 5-speed hatch and that rally suspension made it a fun car. It was black with black wheels also. The 5-speed didn't make it all that slow. I've had worse.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Well I'm a some what proud owner of a focus svt. I decided to trade my 94 mazda b4000 4x4 pickup for it. I also got complete black interior for my stang, a 1999 honda 300 recon atv with extra parts and a 2001 honda 300ex atv that needs a motor or motor work, but I have a motor for it. So do you all think I made a good trade? Keep in mind my mazda pickup had 250,xxx miles on the original motor/tranny.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Hey as long as the Focus is solid after being fixed I'd say you got a great deal.

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

Yeah i've been working on it today, I need to buy 4 intake and 3 exhaust valves and I can start putting it back together. I spent alot of time looking at each valve and the pistons also the head itself making sure thats all it needs. I may go ahead and order some performance cams for it but i haven't decided yet.

Your down there so you might as well do a performance build up (if money is plenty of course).

Re: 2002 SVT FOCUS

I would hit him with 800 and then I would turn around and rebuild the heads and then do all the work.

Yeah money is very tight right now with Christmas coming up but I probably wont put it back together until January. I've been watching some on you tube that have big cams in them and they sound pretty good, but I think I'll try to keep the exhaust quiet so it doesn't sound like a ricer.

I've already got it. The head is new just has bent valves and I plan on doing the work, I've never took my vehicles to a garage.

Wow...I wish I could say that I have never taken any of my vehicles to a garage, but alas, I don't have the knowledge for working on vehicles. Well, i'm impressed, good for you.
