Thumbs down Possible bad news ;(

Well me and my wife took our car to a friend to get a new clutch kit put in. We have only had the car for abot 3 months and dont really know alot at all about it besides what we though it was a stock cobra. Boy was i wrong when we thought that. Aparently not only has it been gone through and set up for drag racing but it has also had a supercharger put on it at one time then taken back off. The block itself underneath is powdercoated green, dead giveway, It has a high performance oil sending unit, Traction bars in the rear along with lowering springs. Front springs have been changed out and fuel pump is a high flow. I know there is many other things our friend told us but too much to list. well the transmission, clutch, or rear of the block is making a chattering noise. If its the transmission its guna cost maybe 550. If its the motor then it will have to b gutted with an unknown cost prob 3-6 k Will know more on wednesday when the transmission is pulled. ugh hope for the best. get a loan for the worst i guess

Re: Possible bad news ;(

You better make sure he knows what he is doing with these engines. These Mod Motors are no joke and the slightest unknown can change everything. Besides, sounds to me like you got a pretty good setup and deal once the vehicle gets fixed right.

Solid Axle w/diff gear ratio is a huge plus! Sweet! It also adds weight savings! (roughly 100lbs). The SS Fuel lines are def. an upgrade.

Is the oil adapter blocked off correctly? It shouldn't hurt you at all.

Valve Seals are simple. Control arms probably went in with the Axle. I'm betting the engine was rebuilt at one point. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

The engine was deff build but was it done in a professional garage or in a shed out behind someones house? ( that's the kicker) And who knows if it was done right...

We talked to the old owners and they said the got it from a dealer and the dealer got it at auction. So dead end there.

I don't really have a bad feeling about this tho because you can sit and rev it and no chattering. It's only when driving it. That what makes me think clutch since it takes most of the force.

But what scares me is that the motor deff had a supercharger on it. So did the mechanic that built it have a charger on it and found out the motor was too weak for it and take it off?

The motor seems tight and has the power stated but I wish I knew whst the chattering was. Theguy workin on it is a certified ford mechanic and has had 5-10 mustangs so I'm not worried. We shall see Wednesday...

Could have been a high dollar supercharger, and the car could have possibly been under repossession, so the owner could have taken it off to turn the car over to the bank. That's what I did with my nitrous kit and wheels on a car I had repo'd once.

I hope it's good news too.. Another bit of info I got was the noise only happens sometimes. Not all the time. Never when parked and revving Always when driving. That's what gives me hope. If it was the motor it would sound like that all the timeright? And it does it from 3-4k rpm after that it goes away. I dunno I can't keep my mind off of it :/ it's the nicest mustang I've owned so far

Re: Possible bad news ;(

Its a cobra right? If that car is set up to race and has seen track time then someone in that circle will know the car.Go to svtperformance.com and throw up a thread with pics of the car and ask if anyone knows the car or previous owner and you will more than likley get some responses.I have done this numerous times over there and gotten great responses, even a mechanic from Flordia that worked on a terminator I posted about buying.....he said stay away,it was a whipple car and has been beat on from day one.Cobra owners stick together so give it a try.

Ooh what else Egr valve and exhaust hangers need replaced the noise is spark slap or I guess he said it's runnin way too rich. All Kinda crap. Here is the parts list totaling up too or around 1700

So do I. This is a top quality piece. I wanted to reduce my rotating mass. A little more fuel efficient and as you guys are learning about me I buy top quality parts. I don't want to fix it next week. I ain't cheap especially not for my car. I love her hmmmmmmm

Well I think I'm just guna pay him to get everything done.. To get it road ready without swaping fuel pump and back goin again will cost me about 1150. I'm guessing the fuel pump is for the supercharger that was in it and the tune( with no tuner) was dumping alot of fuel into the motor. That caused the spark knock. The clutch is mostly the costs on this part of the job since the friction disc needed replaced. I guess we are stickin with the same flywheel. It did have a high performance clutch (spec stage 3) but it was about shot. Well like I said with fuel system and clutch and everything it's guna cost almost 1700 bucks. Does anyone think it would be worth it to find a supercharger so I don't have to reject the fuel system? I mean I'm already spending a boat load and the motor can take it obviously lol and also anyone have one for sale out there?
