What you do with stock parts?

Hey was wondering what you all do with your stock parts when you swap them out? I currently have my mufflers and airbox sitting in my garage and I'm getting to the point where steping over them is a pain. Would anyone even buy stock exhaust?

Re: What you do with stock parts?

Some times you can catch people trying to go back to stock to sell their cars and what not. I was able to sell my stock stuff...but it took a couple years to catch someone looking for it.

Re: What you do with stock parts?

It depends on the part and car.

For something like a shifter, i'd keep the stock shifter so that I can return it to stock if I sell it since the short throw would retain enough value to be worth it. Most people trash them so they are harder to find used.

For something like an exhaust, I'd sell it...you can always find a stock exhaust cheap and I don't think anyone returns the exhaust to stock.

If the car is a rare / collectable car, save all the parts.

The only other parts that I would keep are anything that may cause problems with inspection, such as stock mirrors and lights.

I would just keep it. You never know when you might need it for whatever reason.

depending on which parts you can get some $$ from them in the future. Our local scrap yard takes exhaust and pays really good on cat converters because of the types of metal inside.

Re: What you do with stock parts?

I would keep them all for sure if you can. If you ever trade it in at a dealer or something they dont care or want the aftermarket parts so you can out it to stock and sell the power adders later in life if needed.
This also seem to work true for even some private buyers sometimes. People like stock cars more than modded ones it seems.

Re: What you do with stock parts?

I keep all my smaller stuff like intake, fuel door, side scoops, headlights etc. in the garage. I finally sold my v6 bumper last summer to a guy fixing up a v6 for his kid...it took 2 years but it beats throwing it away.

I figure if there's ever a reason for having to sell the car, I can return everything back to stock except for the rear bumper and exhaust.

I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't sell your stock exhaust to a v6 owner who doesn't want to spend a ton of money for dual exhaust. I remember that was the big thing for 94-04 GT owners, sell their stock exhaust to v6 owners.

Re: What you do with stock parts?

I keep everything, until I, or somebody else needs it. Then I sell it to them cheap... I still have my stock shifter and mufflers, I did trash the stock airbox...

Re: What you do with stock parts?

I say keep them but if a time comes when you need the moeny and can't find a buyer for them then scrap the more valuable parts or my friend even sold to the salvage yard...you won't get paid what you would selling them privately but it helped him make rent...

Very good point. Keep them so in the future when and if you decide to sell or trade in put all the stockers back on. Honestly a modded car is worth less simply because the customer will think it has been beaten on. If you put the stock parts back on no one knows about the mods and if you buy a similar model you can either transfer them to the new one or try to recoup some money and sell them in the forums

Re: What you do with stock parts?

I just keep em in the basement. I've got a guy that will take certain parts towards trade on aftermarket ones. Anything off the Cobra will be saved, but I really don't think there's anything else I'm going to change on it.

You never know what stock parts may be worth in the future. Who knew that a stock catback exhaust for a '93 Cobra would be worth almost $1000 today? Hang on to em if you can, sell what you don't have room for.

most stock parts are not worth anything and you end up kicking yourself for selling stuff cheap or giving it away when time comes that you need it.
