Man getting laid off blows majorly. I was laid off in 08 and luckily had a second job, then that place closed shop so I was stuck with nothin. I'm still not back to full time but I'm making the best of times. You should be ok just don't let go of your hope. The world has a strange way of fixing the wronged and it almost always happens when you need it the most

Its tough right now. My friend quit her job due to a hostile work environment then less than a month later her hubs got laid off. She has put in a TON of apps over the past few months with no luck! She is an emt and mcdonalds told her she was" over" qualified. WTF???? What's wrong with this country?!

Really. I see it now more than ever. Especially since bullying has been in the news more often. I was fired because I was overlooked for job promotion because I was over qualified and I became a threat and they made it hard on me. So I see how corporate America works. Now

That's a good deal man. See the world while you still can. I hear a lot of great stories from people that were in the navy. Just avoid the subs. I work with a guy that was on a sub and he didn't get to have any fun like the people on carriers. Enjoy it man and good luck.

Lol...I was a recruiter for 3 years...it sucked...but it was also very rewarding. IMHO the army definitely offers more!

I can understand that...just know that that job is one of the hardest in the military. Do yourself a favor and make sure you are qualified for the job and it's in your contract. It's not recreational diving. One of the tricks recruiters use is to tell you that you can do it later and play off your lack if knowledge about the system. It's one of the things I noticed across all the service recruiters...not all of them though. Do your homework on all jobs in all services and talk to all recruiters. Take the Asvab, physical, and find out what jobs you qualify for. Make the recruiter step sell you. Dont just go in blindly. The military is a great life and each service and job has a benefit that will stand out. I was an army recruiter so if you want to run anything by me just pm me. I am no longer a recruiter and work with all the services in my current job so I can run things by some really knowledgable and senior people for you.

Lol he has done it for 3 years and just got back from station commander school at ft jackson. His perm mos is now recruiter. He loves it! And is very good at it. He's done a lot in the army like 2 deployments to Iraq and stationed in Germany 3 years. And now we are getting ready to move out of Indiana yay! Lol but he wouldn't trade his job for anything. But of course we have the utmost respect for any who has served or is serving no matter the branch

Listen to Pete... I don't personally know him but he is giving you excellent advice. A lot of young people I know are joining the service right now and they are all doing well. I am around GI's all the time, they comprise a good half of our local Mustang club..

Check out jobs that have a top secret clearance and that are in demand in both military and civilian sectors. See if you can find something that feeds your desire for excitement but will set you up for success. Study each services promotion system...they are all different and you will find one that fits you. Check out careers in military intelligence and aviation. Some training will get you certified as a civilian and make you very competitive later on so that you will never have to worry about being laid off again. Also, keep in mind that the army and navy are the only two services that guarantee training in your contract...the USAF and USMC can only do this for very specific career fields. Also, understand that the recruiter can only work with what your individual qualifications are...education level, physical exam, tattoos, criminal record, Asvab score...so if you expect to have an honest recruiter you should be honest with yourself also. Also keep in mind that there is a reduction in force happening now. This will limit your options somewhat. You may ask why I care...well, it's because you are our future leadership and retention is just as important as accession.

The Military is a good, but demanding. I am retiring from the TX Air Guard in Aug after a total of 23 years, My first 5 were active Navy, I spent most of my time as a Search and Rescue Corpsman with the USMC. I could not have asked for a better job. As others have said, it is not an easy life, but is very rewarding. Talk with guys from each service who are out there everyday and it can help you make an informed decision. I wish you the best!
