need opinions on wheels..

I just bought my brother in laws 01 stang. He treated it like crap,so I stepped in to take it off his hands. After I get her running smooth, I'm gonna need some new wheels and tires BAD. Its just a v6 but I want her to have a mean look. I was thinking about bullitt wheels or some fr500 wheels. I'm undecided on the size and color that would best match the car..any opinonss ???

Re: need opinions on wheels..

with redfire chrome, black, satin, silver etc all look perfectly fine.

I would get the paint professionally went over and fix the missing body parts you have lol. Then get the engine cleaned very good (by hand or even steam cleaned) then you should be good to move onto the interior. Before you know it it will be looking great.

I wish I could afford a good paint job right now. I was going to buy the wheels piece by piece. So do you think I should just buy any normal tires first just to get it running ?

Re: need opinions on wheels..

You can find a decent set of OEM anthracite (grey) bullitts off a 01-04 GT with tires for a good price these days if you look around on forums or craigslist. You'll get the 17" bullitts with tires for half the cost of replicas and new tires.

Just an option...

Re: need opinions on wheels..

18's probably look the best on our body style, but the cost difference in wheels and tires kept me at 17's. Plus I wanted the extra .5" on my rears. (17x10.5 vs 18x10).

Either way, a 17" wheel will be a huge improvement over the stock 15's that are currently on the car.

I'd also check your passenger side manifold for leaks and cracks, they have a tendency to fail over time due to the AC condensor dripping on them.

Is your 01 an auto or manual? If an auto definitely get a flush if you haven't already, also a fuel filter along with the usual maintenance chores ~ plugs, oil, filters, belts, seafoam/injector cleaner, check for exhaust leaks, etc.

I have 99-03 gt wheels. They are amazing... 70/235 on the front and 245 on the rear. I bought mine off of craigslist for 300... With tires. The chrome lip with grey spokes is hot. They have the mustang with red white and blue on em and they would look awesome on your car. I agree with whoever said you could pick em up for half price of the knockoffs.

Good luck to ya.

Check with mustang salvage yards like Prestige Mustang and MPS Auto Salvage. They might have a few sets of stock bullitts or cobras for sale. You'll probably pay more than if you found some on craigslist but they'll probably still be cheaper than a set of replicas.
