I want one too. I thought they were already building them, on a custom order basis.

They probably were, but it sounds like now they won't be on a custom order basis...more of a hand build "mass produced" basis where they will appear on dealer lots or something.

It was the powerplant that made it weigh "so much." All the fenders/body panels were stainless steel....

they had a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels were affixed.

Wow, you can use wikipedia...

The De Lorean DMC-12 is an American sports car that was manufactured by the De Lorean Motor Company from 1981 to 1983 in Northern Ireland. It is most commonly known simply as the De Lorean, as it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels are affixed. A De Lorean was featured as a homemade time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy.
De Lorean DMC-12 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was going by what I knew. :yup:

Although, I didn't that three of the cars were plated in 24 karat gold

And actually the car didn't weight that much. 2712 according to the wiki.. Pretty dam light for a gullwing car if you ask me. That's like 100 pounds more than a 3rd gen RX7.

hmmmm...if they only weight 2700ish lbs, i am surprised no one has attempted to put an LS motor in one...

In all honestly, I have heard of several of them with 350 based motors in them.

The original Giorgetto Giugiaro body design was left mostly intact, as were the distinctive stainless steel outer skin panels and gull-wing doors.
More interesting info..... Damn, does this guy just design everything or what??
