Rear end strength

I wasn't sure how strong the rear end of a 02gt is. Lol I really don't want to tear something up if I don't have to

Strong enough for what? It's been strong enough for almost 10 years.

Re: Rear end strength

IF you don't put sticky D/R or slicks, you should be fine on the street.

It's got 315 nitto drags so either way I'm catching traction. Even without the drags

Ford 03-04 Cobra diff and Moser 31 spline axles, weld the axle tubes and take a look at your upper and lower mounting points for your arms.

LOL..........No need for that unless you plan to race every weekend and do this several times in a weekend and expect it to last a few years!

If u have the funds to build your car to a level where your concerned about the rear strength you'll have enough funds to improve anything that fails

But that's not the point. The point is that I don't want to have to repair anything. I wanna do it right the first time not break and fix

Re: Rear end strength

8.8 is a strong rear end, its all about the "shock" (instant take off) that will break it. Should last though if you dont launch on slicks.

Just make sure you pre-load the drive line when you stage. Pre-load as in if it's an automatic ensure it's in TCC lock and your tires are just about to spin. Manuals let the clutch out while holding the brake until your car starts to bog then press the clutch in a little and that will pre-load your drive line.

Yea the guy that onwed it before me must have been converting it to a drag car cause he put sine nitto 315 drags, 3.90 gears and finished the exhaust before he gave up on the mustang and went to a catfish "camaro". I just really don't want to be driving then have this little punk around here in a 98 cobra with just a tuner that thinks his car is a monster want to do a light run and snap my drive line or pinion or something lol

Lol he has just a plain 98 dohc cobra with a diablo tuner and he acts like it's untouchable lol I try to tell him that that car isn't anymore powerful then a stock Camaro or ta which there's tons of around here. His car looks like a toy with all the stickers and bright yellow paint

I know a guy that converted a gt to a cobra. Cobra motor an everything he left the 8.8 rear. Put 31 moser. Welded the axle tubes, Detroit true trac, adjustable control arms with spherical bearings, diff cover. And he messed up the output shaft a couple of times so id upgrade that

Yea I probably will just strengthen the entire rear cause I'm planning on cams and heads down the road. A sc is enough for a while lol
