Military overseas move

Been blessed with the news that I am getting moved to England for my next duty station here in the next few months. I plan on taking my 2010 GT with me and I'm wondering if anyone has any info they'd like to share....

Depends, what port are you shipping the car from? Is it in your orders? How long after drop off at port will you pcs?

Most importantly

How the f*** did you get England and all I get for ten years is Korea?

Lol...Army tours are always interesting. Ever notice how close the low income housing is to base? Followed by a couple tattoo shops, check cashing businesses, raunchy strip clubs, an Asian buffet, maybe a childcare and church...good stuff.

I'm in DC now...and it's the same at Belvoir.

Only met one Soldier stationed in England...and that was at a commo unit in the middle of nowhere.

Worst place though....Johnstons Atoll...look it up. Korea is much better!

I know about those housing projects. Every major post has "that street". Bragg has Bragg blvd. Benning has Victory Drive. Campbell has Fort Campbell blvd. And they all look exactly the same.

Re: Military overseas move

I wasn't able to ship a car with me to Japan, but I could a motorcycle. However, the typical expense to get the motor cycle within Japanese standards (emissions I think) was about $3000. I don't know if England has anything like this for cars, just something to maybe check out. Also check try to make your best guess for how much your household goods weigh prior to the moving company coming to pick everything up. I know if some people that were over a few hundred pounds what they were alloted and they had to pay quite a bit in fees. And they didn't know until they got here, 4 months later.

Re: Military overseas move

Moving is Always hard, best suggestion is to check out everything you can online, before you get there. Especially repair shops, etc. And yes, if you don't need it then don't take it. (extra stuff). Make sure you learn the DRIVING details out (ALL) before you go driving. Have Fun. We usually got our facilities from AirForce type units, so out facilities are mostly good.
