Any Texas Cops?

So I have been getting pulled over for 12 years now for not having my license plate on the front bumper, instead it is in my car on the windshield on the dash. I have had multiple judges dismiss it and some make me pay the ticket. Any Texas Cops on here want to clear this up for me please? Is it legal to have it where I display it?

I'm from Illinois and have the same problem, and it use to be ok in the dash bit not anymore, but for about $140 you can buy a remote hideaway plate that goes under the front bumper and comes out when you need it and no holes in front bumper, looks cool and worth it on the long run

Ive heard it wasnt legal. Im in texas too and i have my lisence plate in my window. Ive gotten pulldd over many many times and only got one ticket for lisence plate. I guess it depends on the cop pulling you over.

Re: Any Texas Cops?

Well I have read a few case logs where the judge said it was legal because it is visible from the front. That's why I figured if there were any Texas cops on here they could throw their 2 cents in.

Re: Any Texas Cops?

Austin tx here, never run a front plate and never been pulled over for it. (knock on wood)
My nephew is a officer in Cedar Park Tx which is just outside of Austin and he says that most of the time its a excuse to pull you over to check something else out. For instance,a car full of kids late at night with no front plate.....getting pulled over which will possibly lead to a DUI or stop another type of activity. A total pile of **** with no front plate.....getting pulled over which will possibly lead to a no insurance ticket (which is great) expired tag or a warrant. So it does have a good side but he says if its a really nice well kept vehicle they will not mess with it.

Re: Any Texas Cops?

I'm a cop and have just seen this so I don't know if you already got your answer. The law states that the LP will be displayed on the front most part of the vehicle, ie the front bumper. In addition the rear LP shall be dispayed on the rear most part of the vehicle with a white light at night so to be seen from a minimum of 50 feet to the rear.
Hope that helps if you didnt already know.

Re: Any Texas Cops?

you need to buy one of those brackets that dont require holes and do not touch the front bumper, just put it on when you have to and take it off for events/shows etc. It does suck you are required to have it... they look so horrible
