what to do...

currently have an 04 V6 and an 88 fox. as well as a 96 explorer as DD/work vehicle. been thinking for a while now on selling the 04 and 88 and getting a new 5.0. my mind was made up when i went test drive a triple black standard 5.0 fully loaded. it totally won my heart. so the plan became to sell the two stangs and pick up a new one and keep the explorer for work so the new stang could be a garage queen/sunday driver.

WELL, last Friday i took my 04 to work because the battery was dead in the explorer. WRONG day to take the stang. it was raining and road was real slippery when a freaking chocolate lab runs out in front of my car. with no time, and no way to stop, i hit the dog. the dog survived and ran off, but my front bumper didn't have the same luck. it came off almost completely and tucked under the front end of my car. got scraped up on the bottom lip near my chin spoiler. the chin spoiler is pretty much done. with the chin spoiler on, you can barely see the scrape. but i am so picky about my car that i know the scrape will bother me and personally i don't even want to drive it like that.. my boyfriend thinks i'm nuts but he just doesn't understand the respect i hold for mustangs. if i were keeping the car, i'd likely throw a cobra bumper on it, but since i'm thinking of selling her i think my best option may be to just put the bumper back on as is. how bad will this be when it comes to selling the car? does it drop the price by much? the rest of the car is in GREAT condition. what would you guys do in this situation?

Re: what to do...

you could potentially "fix" the bumper by plastic welding it if it's just a small crack. This isn't that hard and solves the problem. Yes, you will likely want to disclose this when selling, but if not visible, it shouldn't be a big deal.

No date set for the new car. And i plan on doing a private sale. So I have time to make decisions. If I were keeping the car, it would def be getting a cobra bumper.

Yeah well from what I can see the cobbling wouldn't be seen but I think it's going to cost about 250 to fix if u find a good deal on painting

---------- Post added at 09:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:49 PM ----------

just found this site selling them at 149.00

Mustangs Unlimited - The Premier Source for Mustang, Shelby and Cougar Parts and Accessories

only problem is their shipping costs are outrageous 149-200 bucks

http://www.partsgeek.com/28h549j-for...+Crash&wfvar=d

74.95 plus 115 dollars shipping

http://compare.ebay.com/like/2005441...Types&var=sbar

one for 68 plus 109 dollars shipping on ebay (10 available)

probably the best deal right here 87 dollars free shipping on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-R...521#vi-content

i think that should leave you set take a look get a paint estimate from a shop while ur at it

For a new 5.0? I thought the same. But after driving it the price tag means nothing to me. Lol. Although if I had a terminator I would probably feel the same as you.

its extremely tempting. but they are so hard to find in good condition and not abused. to be honest, i'd rather the terminator, hands down. even bone stock. i love the new edge look more than any other body style.. you might have me changing my mind Spec. plus 18k vs 40k sounds pretty darn good to me. lol

---------- Post added at 01:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:29 PM ----------

well spec i think you got me. once the two stangs are gone i'll be in the market for a low-mileage, unmolested terminator. its the smarter choice.

Well if I buy the bumper myself I'm lookin at cost of bumper plus $445 to paint and install. $355 for paint only and install myself. Old bumper can be put back on for free.

Also on the terminator thing. Let's say I'd get an 04 with say 30k miles. Damn near new. But what comes with it sitting for so long? Should I expect issues with that?

I'm thinking bang for buck. And the terminator has a new one beat where that's concerned

---------- Post added at 09:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 AM ----------

Never got any answers from previous question. Do issues arise from a car sitting a lot? Even with low miles can a car still be considered 'like new' or is it still gonna be a maintenance hog like a car with more miles?

From what I have gathered it really depends on the owner. My uncle for example has an 04 terminator that he only takes out on two sunny days a year and leaves it in blocks the rest of the time. He drains the fluids frequently and everything is still original. He keeps it in a heated garage without rodent problems. The only thing I would be concerned about with age period would be electronics and gasket materials. Maybe even lines and hoses as well. Regardless I think u can say that one with low miles and an older owner with only one or two owners total would leave the car in a like new condition. Hope this helps

Thanks. Those are the kind of things I wanted to be aware of. Things that get old just sitting. But I also keep in mind that I'll be saving $20k vs buying a new one so even if a few maintenance repairs are needed through time it shouldn't be an issue.

it all depends on how it was maintained, if its just left sitting and never touched or what ever it may develop issues due to that.

guess it'll come down to questioning the previous owner and doing a full scan of the car.

yes and doing a car fax report asking him if it was city or mostly highway miles, look at the other cars there be very judgmental and ask every question that comes to mind including where was it stored does he/she have any 16 year olds that have been driving it see if they are a proud and upstanding person i mean just be observant of everything. I am going to stop now i feel like i am lecturing
