Tuning

So I have a 69 Mach 1 with a 351 Windsor and I got this carb from a friend, I don't have much experience with carbs yet so I'm not to sure how to fine tune them. I know the just of them and have got it running okay, but I would like to know how to dine tune the carb so it runs great

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Re: Tuning

Fined out if it was rebuilt or when it was rebuilt, If it was not, or it was done a long time ago, then get the carb rebuilt.

It was rebuilt not to long ago, the guy I got it from used it for a short period of time after rebuilding it and then took it off and got a different carb, so I got it and have ran it for a summer

Re: Tuning

Thats good, what makes you think it needs to be tuned? It probably doesn't need to be tuned. With a 69 your talking Old School HP. The guy that rebuilt it, may have some knowledge on Tuning/Adjusting Carbs see if he does, and also ask him if anything extra was done to car, like if the "Jets" were enlarged.

No the carb is all stock, but my dad says it doesn't run like it used to so I'm just trying to figure out like what the stock jetting is supposed to be at and where the idler screws are supposed to be turned to

Re: Tuning

Thats what I meant by Jets Enlarged, I should have said if they were "Jetted". Even if they were jetted, that should not make a difference in it running. There is written instructions online about how to adjust screws on Carbs, I cannot not comment on those or how, my openion is take it in to Pro. Try contacting the Carberator Company, they may have something written Online. What kind is it? Holly?

Re: Tuning

turn the idle screws in till the engine stumbles then back them off a turn to a turn and a half ( till the idle smooths out ) if the engine's stock the jets that came with the carb should be fine , but if its not ( cam ,heads etc ) thats when you need to start messing with jet sizes and accelerator pumps ... like if you have a stumble from when you first push down on the throttle , then you usually need to move up a size or two .. its pretty much trail and error if your doing it with out the aid of a dyno etc .....
